Week 24

Touring our town 🙂

Last week went ok I think… not fantastically but fine. We had our friends from Daegu come and visit us, which was great 🙂 We showed them around our town (they were suitably impressed!), indulged in some girl time while shopping for makeup (a real treat given that I have no girlfriends in our town), ate fantastic food and just generally chatted and caught up 🙂 Happy, happy people all around 🙂

To new readers of The Brat Experiment: Husband and I track every single won that we spend on a fantastic app called Money Lover. The app is synched to both of our phones and means that it’s very easy to see where all of our money goes (which is not always pleasant!). I then report on our weekly spending here and write up a summary of our spending for each month. You can check out other weekly spends and the monthly summaries in The Numbers section.

Week’s total: 254 420 won

Necessary: 209 270 won (82%)

Indulgence: 45 150 won (18%)

I cannot believe that we did better than last week (last week we spent 306 880 won)! We were quite liberal with alcohol and eating out so I was sure that we had spent more but no. Yay us! 🙂 Obviously the big grocery shop worked 🙂

I spent last week thinking about two things (and they probably both deserve their own blog posts but I’m going to throw them out here anyway)…

Drinks with co-teachers

The first is the whole social aspect involved in spending money. We definitely spend more money in social situations. But I’m torn between whether this is because we people-pleaser-cowards or because people-are-the-top-of-our-values and we’re living in line with that…

The other thing that struck me last week was the whole makeup shopping thing. I found myself feeling guilty for only wanting to buy makeup, let alone actually buying it. I assumed it was because I can absolutely survive without makeup (i.e. it’s an indulgence) but how can I so easily dismiss how good it makes me feel? I definitely have some things to mull over…
